Brethren: Since the Installation in August, the Brethren of Steadfast have been busy. In August, Silverdale Assembly had a booth at the Kitsap County Fair, Brethren of Steadfast and Bremerton Valley Scottish Rite assisted to pass the word about Masonry and to help bring in new Brothers to the Craft. This booth was a success and there was a lot of interest in what we do. Thank you to those Brethren who manned the booth. In September we took on a project with the assistance of the Bremerton Parks Department to Clean and paint the Guns on Warren Avenue. The Bremerton Parks Department cleaned the Guns and provided the paint. When we took on this project we had no idea how much it would take to complete this task. We did manage to get one Gun painted before the weather got too cold to finish the job. They already look better and when it gets warmer we look forward to completing this job. Also, when it gets warmer, we will participate in the highway cleanup project that we took on with Bremerton Lodge and William H. Upton Naval and Military Lodge located on highway 3 at the Jackson Park exit. In October we re-instituted the Past Master Night to honor our Past Masters. The dinner was a success and, as I was unable to attend, I wish to thank our Senior Warden Brother Richard Fife for filling in and doing an excellent job on my behalf. Mark your calendars as we plan on having another Past Masters Night on July 7, 2009 with a Buffalo Dinner and Election of Officers for 2009-2010. Installation is scheduled for July 25, 2009. All are invited to attend both events. In November at the Grand Masters visit in Port Orchard Worshipful Brother Gordon Sumner was honored by becoming Very Worshipful Brother Gordon Sumner, Special Deputy of Goodwill. We are proud to have VWB Gordon as a member of Steadfast and, as he has been a staple of this lodge for many years, we are glad to see him get the recognition he deserves. In December we joined with William H. Upton Naval and Military Lodge to give away the first Bike in the Bikes for Books program. William H. Upton Naval and Military Lodge received an endowment from Worshipful Brother Walter Nutter. They are using the funds to provide Bikes to students in the Bremerton School District. The program allows students who read a book on the approved list of books to place their name in a raffle, which is drawn and the lucky student gets a new Bicycle. The Brethren of Steadfast are providing helmets to the winners so they can ride in safety. To date we have given away two Bikes and look forward to providing many more in the future. I wish to give my congratulations to Brother Ed Babine Jr. for completing his proficiency for Master Mason. Good job Brother Ed. We have a Valentine's Dinner planned. It will be held at the Masonic Hall at 5th and Warren on February 14, 2009 at 5:00 PM. There will be a dinner and entertainment. All Masonic organization members, and Widows and their family are invited to attend. This is an unprecedented event. We are trying to co-ordinate this even to welcome all Masonic organizations in the North Mason and Kitsap County. If you plan on attending please contact Leonard or Donna Altig at laltig@msn.com prior to February 1, 2009. Steadfast will be holding their annual Sportsman's Dinner on March 21, 2009 from 2:00-6:00 P.M at Steadfast Lodge in Manette. The menu has been streamlined in the past few years. We will be having Buffalo, Elk, Salmon, Bernie Curley's famous Oyster Stew and all the trimmings. Plan on coming out and enjoying a great meal and fellowship. Thanks to Brother Tim Curley for his work to setup the Steadfast web site. It is located at www.wilcur.com/steadfast216. Our Stated communications are held on the First Tuesday of each month at 7:30 PM with a dinner held at 6:30 PM all Masons are invited to attend. Anyone interested in becoming a mason is welcome to attend the dinner to find out what Mason's are like and what Masonry is about. Thank you to the Brethren of Steadfast for electing me Worshipful Master and for your support in all our endeavors thus far and in the future.
Fraternally,
John Stokes
